Q: So what are Vacation Rentals?

A: That's an easy one. Any lodging unit that has a full kitchen & bath, is fully outfitted with linens and towels and usually detached bedrooms is a Vacation Rental Home. These may be apartments, cabins, condos, chalets, houses or villas. In some countries they are called Holiday-lets, Holiday homes, Holiday Villas or Gites (France.)

Q: Are housekeeper tips mandatory in Vacation Rentals?

A: Tips for housekeepers at lodging accommodations of all kinds have become the sign of considerate Guests and just plain good manners. Due to their square footage and amenities, housekeeping at Vacation Rentals is back-breaking work. Considerate Guests will leave a tip of five to ten percent of the total rent. Far less than at a restaurant, but housekeepers work far harder.

Q: I've lost my logon or password. What do I do?

A: No problem. Just go to the Login Page of our website. Look for the "Forgot your Password" link. Or you can call us during business hours.

Q: Is there a deadline for checkout times?

A: Yes - cleaning rooms, condos, homes and resorts is a big job. It can take hours to make a place spic and span. Housekeepers need to start immediately upon departure. Staying late disrupts the cleaning schedule. Sorry.

Q: How do I purchase a Travel Insurance Plan?

A: You can purchase a Vacation Rental Insurance plan directly through your vacation rental company.

Q: When can I pay for Travel Insurance?

A: We recommend you pay for the insurance at the time of reservation, however you can purchase Vacation Rental Insurance anytime prior to or with your final trip payment.

Q: Are there any setup fees for VRMLS?

A: There are no setup fees. In fact, there are no additional fees to list properties on the VRMLS so long as Owners and Managers are members of the Vacation Rental Industry Association (www.VRIA.org).

Q: Are there any other fees for using the VRMLS?

A: None that are mandatory. VRIA does offer other services such as Inspections, Arbitration, etc which members who choose to participate in.

Q: Are Vacation Rentals expensive?

A: To the contrary. Some homes are smaller and very affordable. But even the largest villas prove to be a bargain when you calculate the per-person cost. Homes come in all shapes and sizes.

Q: Can I list my property if it's already listed on other websites?

A: Absolutely. Positively. In fact we recommend using a good number of websites to get maximum inquiries. On the other hand, with VRMLS you can choose to instantly post your property to multiple websites some of which are even free. All of which are affordable.

Q: Can Owners use the MLS just as Property Managers do?

A: That is very important. An MLS can not purport to be a comprehensive database unless it makes it possible for all advertisers to participate. The goal is to help Guests search through all rentals to find the one right for them. Exclusion of rentals based on who manages the property would decrease the value of the MLS.

Q: Do you edit my listing in any way?

A: We never touch the content or ideas in your listing. We do reserve the right to correct typos, spelling and inappropriate information. For example, you are not allowed to discuss your competitors by name. If your listing is not acceptable as written we will put it on hold, notify you of the problem and invite you to make alterations.

Q: Do you give recommendations?

A: The only recommendation we give is to only rent homes from members of the Vacation Rental Industry Association (www.VRIA.org). These are the Managers and Owners who support the industry and can take training for certification and have their properties inspected by an expert. We can not tell you which of the listed properties is best for you. For that kind of information contact the Manager or Owner directly through our inquiry service or phone them.

Q: How do I know listings are legitimate?

A: There is no way to know for sure. This website is sponsored by the Vacation Rental Industry Association a not-for-profit trade association and members do pay a fee to join and participate. But like all online activities, it is important to check out the seller's credentials and ask for references.

Q: What is Plumbob Publishing?

A: A plumbob is an old fashioned tool used by carpenters to determine straight up and down. It is a string and a weight which, when allowed to dangle free always reflects a straight line downward. Our company has chosen the word Plumbob to represent our quest to produce straight forward and accurate publications. Some of these are conventional print and other media. And some are websites in a variety of specialty industries and narrow interests. This website is just one.
